Episode two at last.
Finally something that makes sense. A story line is progressing. I can see why they started the show off with the entertainment television spin, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. At least now, this episode actually being an episode and didn’t continue how it began. That sounds convoluted but if you watch the two, you’ll see what I mean.

In the second part of Dance in the Vampire Bund, Mina Tepes, ruler of the vampires attempts to enter a school of humans and begins negotiations with the Japanese. It appears that she will stop at nothing to accomplish her goals and Akira, a werewolf and her guard begins to wonder if her visions of a vampire land are honorable.
It starts off with an incomplete flashback sequence full of nice colors and flowers and the Vampire Princess crying. Her name is Mina, which took me forever to dawn on me. I’ve had a LONG week, okay?
Then we cut to a high school, naturally. But not just a school, a friggin’ Catholic school with a nun for a teacher. I don’t know where those still exist in America, let alone Japan, but if that’s what’s up, all the power to them. It probably is supposed to make the whole vampire thing seem much worse in contrast. Things always seem to be appear more negative when religion is involved, doesn’t it? I’m look at you, Blue Exorcist. Which was fantastic, btw.
Anyway, class is going on and the discussion invariably turns to Vlad the Impaler, since that’s the supposed Vamp Princess’s father. Let’s just say Mina, seeing as that’s her name anyways. Being apparently uncomfortable with the conversation, the super cute male protagonist [apparently] claims a bathroom need and leaves class. His name is Akira. Eventually I figure out that he’s from the first episode. He’s the kid interviewed on the street when the reporter is asking random strangers if they believe in vampires. That’s my problem with less cutesy shows with similar looking characters. It sometimes takes me a bit to realize ‘hey that’s that guy from that one time.’ /shrug. And finally an opening. It’s okay. Pretty colors, flowers, etc. Except that Mina is wearing strips of cloth that flutter around and pretty much show her small naked prepubescent body. And Akira is holding her and stuff. Please oh please oh please don’t be incest. I can’t take anymore goddamn incest. Or naked prepubescent bodies. But unfortunately, there’s more of that to come. :[
Akira is doing the bad boy thing, laying on a roof, hands folded behind his head, very Yusuke Urameshi or Yoshimori Sumimura, and a girl shows up, Yuki. She clearly likes him, thankfully without the ridiculous tomato-faced blushing thing animes are so incredibly fond of. Nope, she’s just ‘worried about him’ and would ‘probably beat him up’ if he tried to make a move on her. Very Yusuke/Keiko. I love YuYu Hakusho. They mention that ‘bund’ word again, which I’m just going to take as a not-so secret secret base. I mean, everyone knows about it, how secret is it? ANYWAYS. We almost get an up-skirt panty shot, but are mercifully spared. I’m glad this show has at least that much dignity. Yuki leaves for boringly common student council work and Akira notices that he’s being followed. By hair bows. In the bushes. That stalker but be able to pass through solid objects because interplant travel does not work that way. Turns out it’s Mina. They look at look at each other and Akira is CONSUMED WITH MEMORIES because that’s how it works. They mention is recent major head injury and subsequent amnesia, but now he’s getting flashes and glimpses. And mind-wrenching migraines.
He quickly recovers and is walking down the street. He runs into Mina again and does the standard ‘y u follow me’ thing and she does the standard cryptic responses until OMG WHERE DID THESE BOMBS COME FROM. He saves her, she gets emotional, a freaking death helicopter shows up and tries to take them out again. The scene cuts to a group of dudes, one of which is voiced by Jerry Jewell, who I love enough not to care about the other guys. Something about ‘it’s time.’ I don’t remember. Because of the BOMBS that just BOMBED them.
Somehow they’re okay, but Mina’s “shade gel” is fading but she needs help reapplying it. That means Akira and she go into a dark abandoned building and she takes off her clothes. No, seriously. Mina’s all, well you maybe 16 and I may have the body of a child, but I’m totally older that you so this shouldn’t creep you out.’ Thank god Akira says, yeah, no, this is gross wtf. But, he rubs the “shade gel” all over her mostly naked body [she kept her black panties on, a pair which didn’t really cover much anyways]. Then what do we see? Preteen nipples. Itty bitty under-developed titties.
Dance In The Vampire Bund 2 Scarlet Order
Great. Just great. Although I will say, it was almost always a welcome occurrence when shirtless anime characters have actual nipples, since they normally don’t. This show is rated MA, so that’s why they’re there, but more often than more, no nips at all. She’s not even dressed when they’re attacked again by some people. And yeah, she fights them. Nakedly. Effectively, but nakedly. New scene.
It’s sunset and she’s about to take off when YET ANOTHER stranger approaches her, this time hanging upside down and being all creepy. She doesn’t go calmly so this guy turns into a GIANT SPIDER DEMON THING and ties her up in webs. Luckily, it doesn’t get all hentai with the tying up of Mina. That would have been so uncool. Spider demon guy is whipping Akira back and forth like a doll until he flings him into the air. A kill throw, to be sure. But right before he hits the ground, his eyes spark. Then what the fuck do we know, he is a goddamn motherfreaking WEREWOLF. OF COURSE HE IS. I was hoping for a vampire-turned-human-but-then-back-to-vampire like Vampire Knight, but no, they’re BFFs from way back and now he remembers everything. I guess. He kills the shit out of the spider demon guy and then saves Mina. Now it’s Akira’s turn to be naked, but we see less of his, shall we say, physique. GOOD. UGH.
She giggles that he’s back to her and he’s all ‘w00t’ and it’s over.
Dance In The Vampire Bund 2 Manga
FINALLY. Development! Or not, so to speak. I think I enjoy this now. The first episode did not hook me like this one. I’m glad I finally watched it. I’ll actually be motivated to watch the next episode, unlike this one. But seriously, if witches and fairies show up, I’m gonna put my hand through a wall. Been there. Done that. Better nudity. More blood. ?
